New Archbishop Apostolos arrives in Canada ahead of enthronement in Toronto

Archbishop Apostolos arrived in Canada on September 16, 2026, before his enthronement on September 19 at St. Nicholas Cathedral. He was elected by the Holy and Sacred Synod on July 22, 2026, and will begin ministry as head of the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of Canada.

Archbishop Apostolos, the newly elected Archbishop of Canada, arrived in the country on Wednesday, September 16, ahead of his enthronement in Toronto this weekend.

His arrival marks the beginning of a new chapter for the Canadian Archdiocese of the Ecumenical Patriarchate and the Greek Orthodox community in Canada.

Archbishop Apostolos, formerly Metropolitan of New Jersey, was unanimously elected Archbishop of Canada by the Holy and Sacred Synod of the Ecumenical Patriarchate on July 22, 2026.

Last week, Archbishop Elpidophoros of America and the Greek Orthodox Metropolis of New Jersey hosted a farewell dinner in his honor, marking the conclusion of his years of ministry in New Jersey.

The new Archbishop will be officially enthroned on Saturday, September 19, at 11 a.m. at the Greek Orthodox Cathedral of St. Nicholas in Toronto, Ontario.

Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew has appointed Archbishop Nikitas of Thyateira and Great Britain as his Patriarchal Representative for the enthronement ceremony.
