The enthronement of Archbishop Apostolos of Canada in Toronto (VIDEO)

Archbishop Apostolos was enthroned as Archbishop of Canada on September 19, 2026, at the Greek Orthodox Cathedral of Saint Nicholas in Toronto. He had been elected by the Holy and Sacred Synod of the Ecumenical Patriarchate on July 22, 2026, and arrived in Toronto on September 16, 2026.

The enthronement of the new Archbishop of Canada, His Eminence Apostolos, took place today, Saturday, September 19, 2026, at the Greek Orthodox Cathedral of Saint Nicholas in Toronto, Ontario.

Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew was represented at the ceremony by Archbishop Nikitas of Thyateira and Great Britain, who presides over the enthronement.

Archbishop Nikitas is accompanied in Canada by Archdeacon Dr Georgios Tsouros and Presbyter Fr Pavlos Lamprou.

The new Archbishop of Canada, Apostolos, arrived in Toronto on Wednesday, September 16, 2026, marking the beginning of a new chapter for the Eparchy of the Ecumenical Throne and the Greek diaspora in Canada.

Archbishop Apostolos, formerly Metropolitan of New Jersey, was unanimously elected Archbishop of Canada by the Holy and Sacred Synod of the Ecumenical Patriarchate on July 22, 2026.

The previous week, Archbishop Elpidophoros of America and the Holy Metropolis of New Jersey hosted a farewell dinner in honor of the new Archbishop, marking the conclusion of his many years of ministry in the Eparchy of New Jersey.
